May of us have at least one item we own that gives us great joy. Mine just happens to be my car. It’s a 2014 white Mustang convertible with a black top and black leather interior. I have loved Mustangs all my life and hoped someday I would actually own one.
As much joy as she gives me though, she is not very practical. I have found that only two adults can ride comfortably in her. The back of a Mustang is built for “maybe” two small children, but not for adults.
In life there are always things we think will give us great joy, only to have the Father tell us no. Not everything we love or want or even desire is best for us. The Mustang I love and have always dreamed of owning, is not practical for out of town family trips. I knew she was small, but ignored the obvious because my heart desired her so much! Now I know I should have asked the lord and listened to His voice.
This is true with everything in life. We may desire something so much we forsake all advice. I could even tell you times I have twisted what I heard the Lord say to suit my own desires. But in the end, I have learned a great lesson: check with the Father first and listen with an open ear and heart – always listen!
Do not get me wrong. I still love that little car! But the lesson I learned still rings true in my heart. The very next car I possess will be with the approval of the One who knows what we need.
Being “Still and Knowing He is God” is not always easy. It takes patience and an open heart. I am learning and will continue to learn from all He teaches me!
